For the uninitiated, I created these "Fried Friday" blogs for a very good reason. For those that work a 'normal' job and hours Monday through Friday, we are all rather 'fried' when Friday rolls around. And given I work in the news industry, I see a lot of strange, funny, stupid, zany, and just plain, well, 'fried' news stories come across the desk. Hence my tribute every Friday sharing with you a story that is unique, to say the least. It goes without saying that the choices are many. However, this week is a little different...
---------------------------------------------------Before I get to this week's totally '"fried" situation, which will make you wonder about and question many things, I'll start off with some more light-hearted "thinkers" for you to solve first....answers will be at the end of the "fried" section.
1. What gets harder to catch the faster you run?
2. What gets wetter the more it dries?
3. What is always before you but never seen?
4. Which side of the cow has the whiter hair?
-----------------------------------------
And now, your more serious "thinker"...
There are lots of troubling social issues in the U.S., and no one answer, no one panacea, no one specific to hone in on...just a truckload of 'ills' that, ultimately, begin with an individual.
DATELINE: CHARLOTTE, NC
Heck, the dateline could be in any city anywhere, and probably is, sadly. This is not a 'news' story per se, but someone's first-hand account, an indisputable source.
A 7 year old girl and her 7 year old cousin (among others) live with their grandmother, herself who never learned to read (nor wants to, but that's another story for another day). She comes to school hungry and rarely has anything for snack-time. But she is a precious, seemingly happy child who enjoys being in school. She's got a great smile.
Word has it this child was really happy one day last week as she had just found out that her mother is pregnant again, due this winter. Right there in Charlotte. Pregnant. But the mother can't/doesn't/won't take care of this one sweet girl herself. That's grandma's job, apparently.
I wish I had any explanation that made any sense at all, but I don't.
Talk about "fried" in every way possible. It's sad. It's irresponsible. It's downright maddening. Talk about a little girl growing up with the cards stacked against her...
Not much more I can add...I leave you with today's worthy "Fried Fridays" winner, and if you're like me you are left with a gazillion questions you want the mother to answer, first and foremost, as well as the father (?)...and grandmother. God forbid the mother is playing our social welfare system for money, which is a possibility.
Ugh. Grrrrrrrrrrr.
----------------------------------------
Lest I forget, here are the answers to the questions at the top:
1. your breath
2. a towel
3. the future
4. the outside
