"Advertisers Say The Darndest Things..."

Advertising must be a crazy world.

I got this trifold brochure in the mail from a local office of a national home cleaning business, and I found it's catch phrase to be quite a sad one. Now, I think we all understand that the purpose of ad verbage is to get the consumer to buy into the product, but anybody with half a spiritually-inclined brain will balk at the shallowness of this particular campaign.

We'll each take something away from the phrase (or not). First thing I think of is how it demeans anyone who cleans houses...as if someone is too good, too busy, too important to waste their time cleaning house. Second, Life's not too short...it's what it is and needs to be, length-wise, for each of us, individually. Of course, you're welcome to have the perception that things are 'not enough', and the Universe will always make sure you experience that in your life...our attitudes and belief structures create our own realities. "Beliefs", both conscious and unconscious are very powerful shapers. Just passing it along for the inquiring minds out there...

Around 8am Felix came ashore as a Category 5 hurricane in northeast Nicaragua, along what is known as the "Mosquito" Coast. The eye made a direct passage over Cayos Miskitos before hitting land...winds were up at 160 mph, and storm surges approaching 20-feet.

Naturally, Felix will quickly lose strength in terms of winds, but will continue to produce punishing amounts of rain for the mountainous terrain of Central America. The forecast track is for Felix to stay over land all the way to southern Mexico.

Next on the name game list is "Gabrielle"...and 10 to 1 it's getting ready to pop off the Southeast Atlantic coast. Several models indicate a quick flaring to Tropical Storm status of this area, with a very uncertain track as it will be in at atmospheric eddy of sorts. Keep an eye open on this one.

Our weather didn't get the memo that it's September and no longer August....low 90s are in our forecast all week, but at least the humidity levels are low and more bearable. I can't even talk about my 10% chances for isolated storms in the mountains and foothills until the weekend, more than likely. The drought grip tightens thanks to our unending high pressure that has had the Southeast in a Full Nelson for longer than I can remember. Speaking of Nelsons, I'd better go and wrestle with some more weather data...

"Amen!" to your comments on the "housecleaning ad", Bob! And this from me, a Marketing Director! The ad agency and their client DID miss the mark on that one --- well-intended probably, but missed the mark nonetheless.

And where'd Gabrielle come from that quickly?! Swear I didn't see that on the map when I went to bed last night!
Might bring some much-needed rain? Just not all at once, so it doesn't run-off and create worse problems!

Suzy :)

Per Gabrielle...I said it "should" be the next named storm...not there yet, but models sure are spinning it up quickly...nothing more than a 'hunch' and a 'heads up' comment...the next 48 hours will be key!

Yeah, I saw that alright (your 10 to 1 guess), just wasn't reading it carefully I suppose! ..... dead tired, and eyes aren't really open right now! Honest to God, I swear I didn't see anything even remotely materialized on the map last night, that's why I thought it came out of nowhere --- probably didn't see the map clearly either --- too funny, too tired ..... !! :)
